August Book Club

Just a reminder - Kathleen will be hosting book club on Thursday, August 18th. Her book choice is the "The Kids Are Alright" by Liz and Diana Welch, with Amanda, and Dan Welch.

Friday, July 15, 2011

Please note

The meeting at my house on Fauquier Street will be postponed a week to the third Thursday of August. So you should have plenty of time to read the book. Please advise me via email if you want me to order you a book from Jabberwocky. So many of you download books or use the library these days that I don't want to inconvenience a book shop owner. Thanks.

The Art of Enjoyment

Thank you Erin, for hosting last night. It was a "multimedia" discussion of a wonderful book. The food was fantastic, as was the evening. For those who were unable to attend, we watched the author speak about his inspiration for the story and heard Billy Collins read his poem, "The Revenant".

Kathleen will be hosting Sip & Read on August 18th. The book we'll be discussing is "The Kids Are Alright" by Liz, Diana, Amanda & Dan Welch.

I have updated the blog so we can all post. I suggest that, unless there's a special announcement, we keep the posting to those who are about to host or who have just hosted. If we keeps our "thanks" in the comments sections, we won't all be inundated with emails.

Last Night's News ...

Thank you, to those who braved the thunderstorm to make it to book club. We had time to discuss the book and catch up with members and friends.

Our thanks also to Betty, for her kind and thoughtful suggestion to organize a donation to the library in Diane's memory from Sip and Read. It's a wonderful gesture for a true book lover! We agreed to contribute $10 each and you can drop it off to Betty, who will take care of the details for us.

Also, please drop off small portion, comfort food meals (no fish), that can be frozen, to Coreen and Joe. We all miss you Coreen and hope to see you back in the "book discussion" soon!

As requested, here's a recipe from last night:
Giada De Laurentis' Panna Cotta with Mixed Berries
Place one cup of whole milk in a small bowl. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon unflavored gelatin. Let stand for 3-5 minutes. Pour milk mixture into a saucepan and stir over medium heat just until the gelatin dissolves but the milk doesn't boil, about 5 minutes. Add 3 cups whipping cream, 1/3 cup of honey, 1 T. sugar & a pinch of salt. Stir until the sugar dissolves, 5 to 7 minutes. Remove from the heat. Half fill into wine glasses. Cool slightly, refrigerate for at least 6 hours until set. Top with mixed berries.

Also, for the cook's in our club, I highly recommend "Around My French Table" by Dorie Greenspan.
